On Wednesday, 14 November 2018 at 11.00, at Rama IV Room, Dusit Thani Hotel, Bangkok, Hon. Dr. Thamrong Dasananjali, Member of the National Legislative Assembly of Thailand as the President of the WSPU, issued a press release reporting the outcome of the meeting hosted by the National Assembly of Thailand during Monday 12th – Wednesday 14th November 2018 at Dusit Thani Hotel, Bangkok to discuss the main theme of “Role of the Parliament in Supporting Scout Movement towards SDGs Achievement”. This was the first time of WSPU General Assembly to adopt the SDGs as the main theme in the connectivity with scouting activities.

 

The General Assembly was conducted in the warm, friendly and constructive atmosphere and achieved remarkable outcomes, and further strengthened mutual understanding and cooperation among the WSPU members and between the WSPU and the World Organization of the Scout Movement. The “Bangkok Declaration” on Roles of the Parliament in Supporting Scout Movement towards SDGs Achievement aims to urge all national parliaments and governments for supporting their respective national plan through closer collaboration among various sectors, governments, NSPAs, and NSOs on the practical implementation and the proper follow-up of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with a particular emphasis on SDG 3 on good health and well-being, SDG 4 on equality education, SDG 13 on climate action, SDG 14 on life below water, SDG 15 on life on land, SDG 16 on peace, justice and strong institutions, and SDG 17 on partnerships for the goals. The Bangkok Declaration was the outcome document of the 3th edition of WSPU following Commitment of Valparaíso adopted in 1994 (B.E. 2537) in Chili and Manila Declaration adopted in 1997 (B.E. 2540) in the Philippines. The 10th WSPU General Assembly will be held in 2022 in the Republic of Korea.
