Panel Discussion on the theme “Possible Contributions of the WSPU to Achieve SDGs”



On Tuesday, 13 November 2018, at 13.30-16.00 hour, at Vimarn Suriya Room, Dusit Thani Hotel, Bangkok, Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke, Director-General of Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Police Major General Chalermchai Pimolsri, Border Patrol Police and Madam Jacky Deromedi, Senator of French Republic joined the panel discussion as panelists on the theme “Possible Contributions of the WSPU to Achieve SDGs” and Mr. Suvat Chirapant from Thai Scout Parliamentary Association and Dr. Virin Daenraj from the National Scout Organization of Thailand were moderators. The participants came from the World Scout Parliamentary Union, the World Organization of the Scout Movement, youth scouts around the world 30 participants in total. In this regards, Mrs. Kanchana presented the sustainable development model of Thailand which is the principle of Sufficiency Economy Philosophy of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej who said that sustainable development consists of right mindset, right action and balancing between society, economy and environment. The roles of WSPU for achieving SDGs was that it should educate youth to have the right mindset which would guide them to grow up as the leaders to contribute SDGs. In order to support the balanced development, parliamentarians who were the lawmakers should carefully consider in all aspects before enacting the laws for balancing between society, economy and environment. In addition, the laws related to innovative promotion was one of the important things so that budget allocation should suit SDGs. Then Madam Jacky Deromedi, Senator of the French Republic, presented that in France students did not have to study scouting in school, but there would be scout’s activities held by other associations and organizations which they could join during their free time with government support. At present, the environment is the challenge issue; therefore, WSPU shoud play roles to cultivate good manners to children to have responsibility for environment. She suggested that parliamentarians should increase communication with people and support the training of environmental protection for people. Meanwhile, Police Major General Chalermchai Pimolsri presented the topic of supporting of the WSPU to achieve SDGs by village scouts.
